Expectations for Egg Donors

While each IVF Clinic may have its own specific donor profile, generally all Egg Donors will be held to the criteria listed here:

The donor should be between the ages of 21 and 30 years old.  If the donor is known by the Clinic, she may be permitted to donate up to her 35th birthday.

She is physically and mentally healthy and has passed medical and psychological screening.  Screening shall include infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia), genetic diseases (eg cystic fibrosis carrier status and karyotype (chromosome mapping) and blood group and Rhesus status. In addition, certain ethnic groups are screened for sickle cell and thalassemia.

She is mature, dependable, can keep appointments and is expected to not demonstrate negative psychological issues from her participation.

She will generally have had her own child or children following a healthy pregnancy.

She is expected to have no history of infertility, herself and that there is no expectation that she will have problems with ovarian stimulation or retrieval.

She will have no history of substance abuse and may be asked to submit to urinalysis.

Neither she or her family will have a history of mental disease or negative inheritable/genetic traits.

She will be limited to between 4 or 6 donation cycles.
